DIY Floating shelf - IKEA Hack!
Today I am writing about my favourite Ikea hack. It is very easy - ANYONE can make this at home. Its stuff like this that makes the interiors of your home feel custom.
What you need:
4 EKBY BJÄRNUM Brackets - 4 (they come in two sizes, I always get the larger ones)
Rough Pine from Home Depot - They come in 6 ft and 12 feet. They really do resemble barn board. Depending on your size, you can buy one 12" board and get an employee to cut it in half. If you do not have tools at home I suggest you get them to do all of your cuts. If this is the case, Get them to cut the depth of the board (as 12" is too wide) to 11".
Drywall screws
Spray paint (your choice on colour)
Sander (optional, but it does look better smooth)
Wood stain (I used provincial mixed with classic grey)
Once you have your cuts made, insert the wood and screw in nails to secure. As you can see I also added a wine glass rack to the bottom of one of the shelves. This is optional- but I wanted one :) If you also would like one- just type in "wine glass rack for under shelf"- find one and voila!
Here are a couple of other ideas & projects with this idea:
